Allen Dale Gibson was born September 14, 1931, in rural Tama County, the son of Irvin and Anna (Paustian) Gibson. He grew up in Traer, an only child, and graduated from Traer High School with the Class of 1949. Allen met Betty on a blind date in 1954, when he was home from the service. In 1955, they attended the “Doctor’s Dance” together while Betty was in nursing school and continued dating until they were united in marriage in 1958.

He was a passionate family man, and always had time for his kids and grandkids. Allen worked for many years at Titus Manufacturing as a press operator and retired from Veldhuizen Refrigeration in 1991.

After retirement, he and Betty traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and Florida. They also bought a trailer in Marquette, Iowa, where they enjoyed the beauty of the Mississippi River Valley. Allen loved fishing (with his fishing buddy Tammy), hunting and gardening. He was a huge fan of Mercury vehicles – especially the Grand Marquis!

Allen passed away at home on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the age of 83 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Nicholas Gibson.

Allen is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Richard (Kimberly) Gibson of Waterloo and Randall (Marlen) Gibson of North Carolina; daughters Tammy (Jim) McNally of Washburn and Deborah (Kevin) Schaa of Missouri; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the family.
