Michael Dennis Freeland

June 4, 1944 to May 11, 2015

Michael Dennis Freeland was born June 4, 1944 in Waterloo: the son of Vernon and Mary (Dinnebier) Freeland, Sr. He graduated from Waterloo East High School with the class of 1963. After high school, Michael worked at the Illinois Central Railroad. He then worked at the University of Northern Iowa, as a maintenance plumber, retiring in 1999.

Michael was united in marriage to Brenda Postel on October 9, 1987 at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, in Littleton. He was voted in to the state of Iowa Softball Hall of Fame with his two brothers, in 1990. Michael was a member at the Elks Club and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping and horse racing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Michael passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at his home, from pancreatic cancer, at the age of 70.

He is preceded in death by his father; a grandson Cody Kruse and a brother Vernon Freeland, Jr.

Michael is survived by his mother Mary Freeland of Waterloo, his wife Brenda of Hudson; four daughters: Angie (Brian) Carmichael of Aplington, Stephanie Freeland of Cedar Falls, Heather Freeland of Waterloo and Amanda Freeland of Hudson; five grandchildren: Kayla (Zach) Wayne, Hunter and Bryce Carmichael and Brandon and Mazie Gilfillan; two great-grandsons: Karder and Tate Wayne; two brothers: Chuck (Nancy) Freeland of Waterloo and Dick (Sherry) Freeland of Detroit and two sisters: Rosemary (Jim) Glass of Waterloo and Carol (Darrell) Kinkade of Waterloo. Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial fund is being established.
