Darwin Eugene Happel was born July 24, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa: the son of William and Lenora (Bock) Happel. He graduated from Waterloo West High School and then joined the United States Navy. After Darwin’s discharge, he worked at Winterbottom Plumbing. He was then employed at FedEx and a driver until his retirement. Darwin enjoyed golf and watching Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball.

Darwin passed away at his home at the age of 66. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Eileen Happel.

Darwin is survived by his sisters, Beverly (Eugene) Wehr of Cedar Rapids and Sue (Dennis) Dickinson of Sycamore, Illinois; one nephew Ryan Dickinson; three nieces: Charlotte Timmer, Amanda Dickinson and Andrea Goodnite; four great-nephews: Zach Timmer, Ethan Timmer, Nathan Dickinson and Carter Dickinson; and a great-niece Lauren Goodnite.

Memorials may be directed to the family or donor’s choice.
