Obituary for Harvey Johnson

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - Harvey Johnson, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, Feb. 6, at Covenant Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born January 5, 1927, in New Hartford, Iowa, son of Johns Johnson and Gerdena Molendorp Johnson. He married Roberta Ilene Bond on March 20, 1951, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death July 28, 2010.

Harvey was in the United States Army from 1945-1966, serving in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. He then went to work in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning trade working for Gene Bond Plumbing & Heating, Dean’s Heating and Cooling, Tom’s Plumbing & Heating, B&G Plumbing & Heating and independently, Johnson’s Plumbing & Heating.

Harvey enjoyed going to coffee with the guys, calling old Army Buddies, and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed good stories and good jokes and could tell a few himself.

He is survived by four children: Rick (Deborah) Johnson, Pam Johnson, John Johnson & Mark Johnson; three grandchildren: Cameron Johnson, Candice (Troy) Belmer & Katherine Johnson; three great-grandchildren: Jayden Johnson, Lily Johnson & Vivian Johnson; two sisters, Carol Green of Cedar Falls and Jean Boer of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine sisters: Cora, Rosetta, Margie, Jerrena, Pearl, Jane, June, Gladys, Betty; and five brothers: Vern, Wallace, Harvey #1, Robert and Ray.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Service with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and also for one hour prior to services Monday.
