Karen E. Manning (1957-2015)

HUDSON, IOWA - Karen E. Manning, 57, of Hudson, died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at her home in Hudson.

She was born November 7, 1957, in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Leo R. and Kathy (Potillo) Turner. She married Merlyn D. VandeKrol March 30, 1980 in Austin, TX; he died January 31, 2006. She then married Albert C. “Al” Manning on October 22, 2011, at Hickory Hills Park near LaPorte City.

She graduated in 1975 from Crockett High School in Austin, TX. She was a homemaker most of her adult life, but later helped manage Al’s Sub City store.

Survived by: her husband of Hudson; two sons, Kevin L. (Amanda) VandeKrol of Des Moines and Joel A. (Hope) VandeKrol of Ankeny; step daughter, Kirsten Manning of Waterloo; her mother, Kathy Turner Thompson of Livingston, TX; two grandchildren, Corin VandeKrol of Des Moines and Jackson VandeKrol of Ankeny; and sister, Kathy Crawford of Starke, FL.

Preceded in death by her father.

Services: Wednesday at Bethany Bible Chapel in Cedar Falls, with interment in the Hudson Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
