Donald "Bomber" James Bovy

Donald “Bomber” James Bovy, 69, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, January 3, at his home.

He was born March 2, 1945, in Waterloo, the son of Peter William and Bernice Fischels Bovy. He graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1963 and completed courses in welding and auto body repair at Hawkeye Tech from 1969-1970. Don served in the United States Army Reserves from the mid 1960-1970. He was employed at John Deere for 31 years as a welder, retiring on March 31, 1995. He also co-owned the family Century Farm since 1991. Don was also a member of Nugent Demuth Post 714 in Gilbertville.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert (Kathy) of Verona, Wisconsin, and LaVerne (Sue) of Waterloo; two sisters, Barbara (Richard) Siems of Canyon Lake, Calif, and Rose (Bert) Turner of Florissant, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Connie Bovy of Evansdale; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Larry Bovy.

Services: Friday, January 9, 2015, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with inurnment at a later date in St. Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Eagle Center. Public visitation Thursday, and also prior to services Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
