Robert Brandes, 77, of Waterloo, died at UnityPoint Health ‑ Allen Hospital, Friday, October 16, 2015.

Bob was born December 12, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Louis and Lula Keegan Brandes. Bob grew up in Waterloo and graduated from West High School in 1956. After High School, he served in the U.S. Army. He married Karen A. Roberts April 13, 1965 in Kansas City, KS. She died August 22, 2009.

Bob served with Waterloo Fire Rescue from 1962‑1990, retiring in 1990 as a fire equipment operator. He also worked at Petersen & Tietz Florist for many years, retiring in 2012.

Bob enjoyed model railroading, woodworking, traveling with Karen, and he was a huge sports fan. He especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and spending time with them.

Survivors include: three sons: Mark (Lydia) Brandes of Evansdale, Rick Brandes of Ft. Madison, IA, and Jeffery R. Brandes of Dubuque; three daughters Cheryl A. (fiancé Tom Towne) Brandes of Onalaska, WI; Tracy Schultz of Waterloo, and Brandy Brandes of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren: Jil Brandes, Markie (Jeana) Brandes, Bobby Brandes, Jeffery Schultz, and Taylor (Brandon) Buzzell; six great grandchildren: Blake, Brock, Baylee, Marlee, Mikaela, and Maxx; and sister Dorothy Benson of Ft Worth, TX.

Preceded in death by: his wife; daughter Crystal Brandes; five brothers Paul Gardner, Vernon Brandes, Artie Brandes, Eugene Gardner, and Jack Gardner; two sisters Evelyn Grover and Donna Lovell.
