Biography--

Magdalen Helen Frost, 94, died Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born April 25, 1920 in Black Hawk County, daughter of Peter William and Mary C. Schmitz Schares. She married Leander John Frost on February 19, 1941 in Gilbertville. He died October 28, 1982.

Magdalen was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Ron (Mary) Frost, Tony (LaDonna) Frost, both of Gilbertville, Lee (Laura) Frost of Jesup and Randy (Diana) Frost of Unionville, Missouri; a daughter, Helene (Luis) Reyes of Littleton; twenty-four grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Gene Cunningham of Oelwein; two daughters-in-law, Tammy Bronemann of Cedar Falls and Julie Frost of Gilbertville; two sisters, Esther (Melvin) Weber and Betty Joblinske both of Jesup; two sisters-in-law, Norma Schares of LaPorte City and Margo Schares of Thornton, Colorado.

She was preceded by three sons, Merrill Frost, Irvin Frost and Joseph Frost; two daughters, Mary (Tom) Weber and Marlene Cunningham; two grandchildren, Brent Frost and Todd Frost; four brothers, Laverne (Laura) Schares, Melvin Schares Sr., Cletus Schares and Cleo Schares; three sisters, Mildred (Lawrence) Schmit, Rosemary (Wendell) Circus and Theresa Schares; two brothers-in-law, Earldean Joblinske and Cletus “Bud” Frost.

Services will be Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation will be Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a rosary and a vigil. Visitation will continue for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the church, Bosco System or Cedar Valley Hospice.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them. Some of her favorite things to do were to cook for her family, play a game of cards or bingo.
