Virginia Becker Glenn

Virginia Becker Glenn, 99, died February 27, 2015 at Friendship Village Pavillion.

She was born September 3, 1915 in Cascade, daughter of John and Pearl Cooley Becker. She married George W. Glenn on May 5, 1941 in Cascade. He died March 6, 2006.

Virginia worked as a home health nurse in Cedar Rapids and in a doctor’s office in Mason City. She then worked as a floor nurse and supervisor at Schoitz Memorial Hospital and later retired from John Deere Medical.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Nancy) Glenn of Dysart; her daughter, Kathy Glenn (John) McGarry of Highland Ranch, Colo.; six grandchildren, Tim (Cara) Glenn of Dysart, Chris Glenn of Oelwein, Angela Glenn (Keith) Prusha of Dysart, Anthony Glenn of Las Vegas, NV, Shea McGarry (Jason) Louie of Martinez, Calif., Ryan (Sarah) McGarry of Baltimore, Md.; sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Paul Becker and James “Allen” Becker’ two sisters, Elizabeth “Peekie” Howard and Jeanne Kane.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday , March 4 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with inurnment at a later date. Public visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also one hour preceding services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Friendship Village Foundation in Waterloo or Hospice Compassus in Cedar Falls.

Virginia was very devoted to her Catholic faith. She loved playing cards and “winning” and was also an avid golfer.
