Lois R. Whalen Hayden, 92, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Waterloo, died March 20 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Olathe, Kansas.
She was born August 1, 1922, in Jefferson County, daughter of Herrick V. and Ruth Pollock Culbertson. She married Francis Whalen June 9, 1944 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He died in 1974. She married Searles Hayden June 28, 1979 in Ossian and he died in 2011. Lois served in United States Navy WAVES during World War II and was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael (Kathy) Whalen of Harpers Ferry and James (Connie Lee) Whalen of Des Moines; two daughters, Kathleen (Daniel) Anderson of Coralville and Anne of Plymouth, Minn.; grandchildren, Sean (Bonnie) Whalen of Pilot Mound, Carey Whalen of Harpers Ferry and Caitlin (Darry) Beam of Olathe, Kan. and great-grandchildren, Emma and Claire Whalen and Benjamin and Henry Beam.
Preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Jon and Richard Culbertson and a sister, Cornelia Ewald.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 19. Public visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
