Gerald Nicholas Weber

July 11, 1942 - May 3, 2015

Gerald Nicholas “Jerry” Weber, 72, died Sunday, May 3, at Allen Memorial Hospital of heart failure.

He was born July 11, 1942 in Waterloo, son of Walter T. and Elizabeth E. Weyland Weber. He married Patricia Becker on December 19, 1980, in Waterloo.

Jerry graduated from Columbus High School in 1961. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked in the sports dept. at K-Mart for many years and was then employed as a machinist for John Deere Tractor Mfg. Co. , retiring in 2005. He was the financial treasurer of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of the American Legion Nugent-Demuth Post 714.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Brad (fiancé Rebecca Sanger) Weber and Derrick Weber all of Des Moines; a daughter, Beth (Brian) Crotty of Des Moines; a grandson, Connor “his big boy” Crotty; a brother, Edward (Sharon) Weber of Waterloo; three sisters, Bernadette Fischels of Gilbertville, Marcella Moore of Waterloo and Betty Moran of Elk Run Heights.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Raphael (Sally), Robert, Francis, James (Barbara) and Donald (Betty) Weber; four sisters, Lorraine Weber, Theresa (James) Smith, Dorothy (Leo) Frost and Armella (Famous) Immel; five brothers-in-law, Gerald Thome, Roman Fischels, Loren Tripp, Robert Moore and Roy Moran.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Nugent-Demuth Post 714 of Gilbertville, assisted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Order of Foresters and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church or Columbus High School.
