Irvin A. Youngblut

October 6, 1924 - June 25, 2015

Irvin A. Youngblut, 90 of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 25 at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born October 6, 1924 in Jesup, son of Clarence and Clara Welter Youngblut. He married Edna M. Henn September 4, 1946, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.

Irvin owned and operated Youngblut Jewelry in Waterloo for many years. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree in horology at Elgin College, Elgin, Ill. He was one of two survivors of the 194th Glider Infantry, 17th Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge, in World War II.

Irvin was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was past president and past board of director of St. John’s Community Credit Union, Iowa Watch Maker’s Association and Iowa Jeweler’s Association.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Waterloo and Thomas (Cathy) of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Debra (Bill) Knipp of Waterloo and Susan Renz of Napa Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Joan) of Waterloo; three sisters-in-law, Charlene “Chucky”, Rosie and Janice Youngblut all of Jesup.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald “Jerry”, Richard “Dick”, Arnold “Barney" and Clarence, Jr. “Junior”.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with entombment in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum where full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo Amvets Post 19, Evansdale Amvets Post 31, the Patriot Guard and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7:30 pm Knights of Columbus 4th degree rosary. There will be no visitation at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or Knights of Columbus.
