Marcella Joann Schafer

August 7, 1936 - July 16, 2015

Marcella Joann Schafer (Brennan) was born on August 7, 1936 in Rudd, Iowa, to Clarence I. Brennan and Iola Rose Ackerson. She married Marvin Charles Schafer on December 29, 1955. They had seven children; Scott (deceased), Vicky Grundmeyer of Riverview, FL, Chip of Waterloo, Tammy Bordeaux of Blooming Prairie, MN, Sandra (deceased), Michelle (Mark) Lynch of Cedar Falls, and Jonelle (deceased). Marcella had 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Marcie lived for her family and remained dedicated and loyal to them throughout her life. Marcie was faced with many struggles but remained strong and never gave up. She was unique and outspoken, and would not hesitate to tell you what she thought. She loved to travel, especially to Wyoming, Las Vegas, and the beaches in Florida. She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and friend.

Marcie was a hard worker throughout her life and worked at Waterloo Register until 1969 when she was disabled. She continued to work when she could and enjoyed the time she spent working with her friends, the Nuns, at the American Martyr retreat, and serving beers to the patrons at Luney Tunes.

Marcie is survived by her sister, Winny Neessen of Cedar Falls; four children; 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her son Scott, her daughters, Sandra and Jonelle, her father Clarence, her mother Iola, her sister Patsy.

Services will be on Tuesday at Redeemer Church (formerly Valley View Baptist Church), 815 Orchard Drive, with burial on Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, and at the church for an hour before services on Tuesday.
