Services:

Memorial Mass: Saturday, October 17, at St. Edward Catholic Church.

Visitation: Friday at Locke Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Cemetery:
His body was donated to Mayo Clinic and will later be interred at Calvary Cemetery, Waterloo.

Biography--

Dr. Louis T. Winninger, 93, of Waterloo, died at Friendship Village Retirement Center Health Pavilion, Tuesday, October 13, 2015.

Louis Theophile Winninger was born December 21, 1921, in Waterloo, the son of Theophile and Eva Friedl Winninger.

Dr. Winninger graduated from St. Mary's High School, Waterloo and attended Loras College, ISTC (now UNI), and received his BSM and in 1946 his Doctor of Medicine degree from Creighton University. He interned at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha and had a surgical residency at St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse Wisconsin.

While his residency in LaCross he met Margaret Anne Lipovetz and they married February 23, 1948, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in LaCrosse.

After his residency he served with the 32nd Infantry Regiment as a battalion surgeon on the western half of the 38th parallel in Korea then in Sapporro and Sendai, Japan. After his service Dr. Winninger returned to Waterloo and wsa associated with Dr. A.J. Staudt, C.C. McIntyre and the Waterloo Medical Surgical Office for many years, later with the Family Practice Medical Center, and was involved with forming and serving on the Board and Quality Assurance Committee of the John Deere HMO in Waterloo.

He was a member of St. Edward Church, Black Hawk County Medical Society, Waterloo Elks B.P.O.E., Iowa Medical Society, Association of Railway Surgeons, and the American Academy of Family Practice.

Dr. Winninger spent 28 years following his retirement living in the winter at Ft. Meyer, Florida and the summer in Waterloo. He continued to maintain his interest and knowledge of medicine doing this time attending meetings and serving on committees at Covenant Medical Center.
