Biography--

Beverly A. Pothast, 86, Waterloo, died at ManorCare Health Services, on Thursday January 15, 2015 of natural causes.

She was born on February 18, 1928 in Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Herman and Molly (Kerr) Benson. After she graduated high school, Beverly attended nursing school in Iowa City.

She married Henry A. Pothast on March 27, 1949 in Jesup, Iowa. He died on February 11, 1981.

Bev worked as a secretary for Santa Claus Associates, Dr. Tice and Dr. Kerr and she also worked for the University of Northern Iowa as a secretary in the counseling department for 25 years, retiring in 1992. She was member of Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo and volunteered at Covenant Medical Center.

She was loving and was very devoted to her grandson, Danny.

Bev's passion was gardening. She loved animals and often fed the birds and squirrels and was particularly fond of Mickey Mouse. Beverly loved to travel. Hank and she traveled to bowling tournaments and later Donna Kies and she traveled many times together. Bev was a good friend and valued friendship, her coffee group was a source of many good times together, helped each other through a lot, and has met since 1958.

Beverly is survived by a son, Craig Pothast of Waterloo; a daughter, Cindy (John) Higgins of Huntington Beach, CA; her sister, Shirley (Gene) Delagardelle of Waterloo; and a grandson Danny.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son Randy, brother Richard Benson, and a sister Mary Ellen Larson.
