Sylvia Kinney, 91, of Waterloo, Iowa, and formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, died at ManorCare Health Services Monday, September 21, 2015.
She was born December 18, 1923 in West Bend, Indiana, the son of Fred K. and Augusta Oelke Twachtmann. She married Earl C. Wolff February 28, 1943; they were later divorced. Sylvia married James H. Kinney on May 14, 1984 in Las Vegas. He died January 14, 1990.
She graduated West Bend, Wisconsin, High School in 1942. She worked for 15 years at Barbara’s Bakery in Des Moines.
Sylvia loved to bake and enter baking contests. She would organize Sunday afternoon baseball games with her children and their cousins. In younger years, she played on a ladies traveling baseball team. She also enjoyed fishing with Mr. Kinney and watching the Green Bay Packers.
She is survived by: seven daughters: Sylvia (Richard) Marquette of Evansdale, Sandy Wolff of Des Moines, Wendy (John) Wolf of Waterloo, of Darlene (Chip) Hansen of Grand Rapids, MI, Cheryl (Pete) Versluis of Grand Rapids, MI, Elaine (Zene) Malinski of Kansas City, MO, and Debbie (Gene) Coufal, Columbus, NE; five sons: Earl (Gena) Wolff of Independence, Danny (Lynn) Wolff of St. Charles, James (Linda) Wolff of Waterloo, Lonnie (Maxine) Wolff of Waterloo, and Lance (Pam) Wolff of West Virginia; 45 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and one sister: Esther (Clarence) Hornboger of Machesney, IL.
Sylvia is preceded by: two sons: Warren Wolff and Darrel Wolff; one daughter: Connie Canakes; and one brother: Siegfried Twachtmann.
