Biography--

Elaine Herman, 96, of Waterloo, died at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, on Friday March 13, 2015.

Elaine was born on June 16, 1918 in York Township, Minnesota, daughter of Albert and Alice (Applen) Hovey.

She married Roger C. Herman August 5, 1936 in Cresco, Iowa. He died November 6, 1987.

Elaine was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Evansdale where she was active in the Women of the Church. She is an original member of the Evansdale Garden Club and member of Red Hat Society and the 1918 Club. Elaine enjoyed baking - especially ginger and sugar cookies for her grandchildren.

She is survived by: daughter Sharon (Jack) Schake of Waterloo; five grandchildren: Kevin (Debra) Herman, Brian (Ellen) Herman, Tamara Schake, Jeffrey (Cyndi) Schake, and Cassandra Sims; 11 great-grandchildren: Kayla and Jamie Herman, Hannah and Hallie Herman, Allison (Simon) Herod, Andrew and Alex Fischels, Carson and Cameron Schake, and Andrea and Ashley Sims; three great-great-grandchildren: Oliver, Ryan, and Sydney Herod.

Elaine was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, sons Robert and Harold Herman, infant daughter Delores, brothers Kermit, Glenn, Richard, Gary, and Arthur Hovey, and sister Norma Ruzicka.
