Funeral Mass: Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Edward Catholic Church

Visitation:
Monday with 3:00 Rosary Service and 7:00 Scripture Service at Locke Funeral Home. There will be no visitation before services at the church.

Cemetery:
Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa

Biography--

Gary D. Murphy, 72, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Friendship Village Medical Center on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was born January 8, 1943 in Waterloo, son of Chester and Violet.

He married Sharon Wiest on April 4, 1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1961. Gary owned and operated Murphy's DX Service Station from 1969 until 2007. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Gary was an all-around good guy who had a great sense of humor with a tidbit of sarcasm. He enjoyed helping others and was also generous with customers at the shop. He was a hard worker and never missed a day. He loved old cars and liked working on them.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon of Waterloo, five children and sixteen grandchildren: Renee and Steve Duggan of Waterloo and their children: Maureen, Joseph and Kyle; Michael and Jennie Murphy of Decorah and their children: Patrick, Mary, Andrew and Jane; Brian and Stacey Murphy of Omaha, Nebraska and their children: Mark, Adam, Jack, Sean, Ryan, Luke and Gabe; Jason and Meredith Murphy of Decorah; and Matthew and Jeni Murphy of Marengo, Iowa and their children: Elinor and Etta.

Survivors also include his six sisters: Kay Kalsem and husband Homer of Huxley, Iowa, Pat Pietan and husband Norb of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Madonna Greene and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Roberta Keen and husband Tom of Victoria, Minnesota, Becky Davis of Cedar Falls and Denese Wilson and husband Bruce of Le Claire, Iowa; and his two brothers, Jack and his wife Jody of Columbia, Missouri and Kenny and his wife Chris of Cedar Falls.

Gary is preceded in death by grandson, Thomas.
