Mr. F. Davenport died very suddenly at his home on West 19th Street, Cedar Falls, on Friday afternoon, Jan. 9, 1903.

He was apparently as well as usual until a few moments before he expired. His death is attributed to heart trouble.

The deceased was born in Chester Co., Ohio; April 26, 1825, and came west in 1848 locating at first in Mt. Vernon township. After the death of his wife he moved to Cedar Falls and has since made his home in this city.

He served in the Mexican War and also in the War of the Rebellion, where in Company B, 31st Iowa Volunteers he ranked as Corporal. On account of his physical disabilities he was discharged from the service.

He has been an invalid for many years.

Mr. Davenport married a second time and his wife and two sons survive him. the sons, Delano and Otis, both live in Spokane Falls.

The funeral services were held at the family residence Sunday afternoon and were conducted by the members of James Brownell Post, G.A.R., of which he was a member. Rev. P.C. Nelson, pastor of the Baptist church, made the address and the Post had charge of the burial services, which were held in Ford's Cemetery east of the City. Thirty-five of the Comrades were out to attend the burial rites, which was a good attendance, considering the bitter cold.

~The Semi-Weekly Gazette, Cedar Falls, Tuesday, January 13, 1903

Note: Ford's cemetery was likely a historical name, it is now known as Hill Side cemetery, and is on Lone Tree Rd., Cedar Falls.
