D. E. Horner Death Called Suicide
Deam Eugene Horner, 61, of 219 Highland Blvd., died about 11:20 p.m. yesterday at Schoitz hospital as a result of a .38 caliber gunshot wound in the head.

Police said the wound was self-inflicted.

Horner, an insurance broker, was taken from his home to the hospital about 3:30 p. m. by a fire department inhalator squad.

He was treated in the emergency room at the hospital for about four hours and then removed to another room. He lived about four more hours.

Survivors include his widow, the former Martha Swisher; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Glaza, of Sioux City; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending at the Parrott and Wood funeral home.

DEATHS - DEAM E. HORNER
Funeral services for Deam E. Horner, 61, of 219 Highland Blvd., who died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday at Schoitz Memorial hospital of self-inflicted gunshot wounds in the head, will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Charles Jacobs, pastor, will officiate. Committal services will be at 4:15 p. m. Tuesday at Rose Hill cemetery, Lamoni, Ia.

Parrott & Wood funeral home has charge of arrangements. The casket will not be opened at the funeral home or at the church.

He was born on May 14, 1903, in Lamoni, the son of Ernest and Ida Horner. He was graduated from Lamoni high school in 1921. He came to Waterloo and attended Gates Business college.

For the past several years he had been general agent here for Continental Assurance Co. of Chicago and prior to that had been associated with the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. He had been in the insurance business for the past 31 years. Earlier following his graduation from business college, he had been employed by the Walker Remedy Co. and the Berkley Hardward Co.

He married Martha Swisher in Waterloo on Jan. 11, 1935. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Lamoni. He was a member of Life Insurance Underwriters Associations, and of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 290.

Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. John Glaza, Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Wallace Henderson, 1502 Grand Blvd., Cedar Falls; Mrs. Elvin Luff, Independence, Mo.; one half-brother, Robert Anderson of Grangeville, Ida.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
