WATERLOO - Virginia A. Mraz, 93, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Rosewood Estates.

She was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Waterloo, daughter of J.H. and Linnie Fleming Greelis. She married Edward G. Mraz on Oct. 25, 1941, in Waterloo; he died March 2, 2001.

Virginia graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1939; attended the University of Northern Iowa, and worked at Davidsons Department Store as a cashier. She owned and operated Jinny’s House of Plates for 33 years, retiring in 2000.

Survived by a son, Roger (Judy) of Columbus Junction; three daughters, Carol Jenkins of Loveland, Colo., Cherie Cartier of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Debra (Bill Melton) Mraz of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her former son-in-law, Kevin Cartier of Marshalltown.

Preceded in death by her parents, a sister and three brothers.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 5 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.

Virginia was inducted into the East High School Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, 1984, for “Outstanding Contribution to the Waterloo Community and East High School.” She wrote the words to the East High Trojan school song and also the senior farewell song.
