WATERLOO - Lorenz E. Schmidt, 94, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 16, 1912, in Sherwood, Ohio, son of the Rev. Paul G. and Bernadina Kramer Schmidt. He married Gladys V. Peterson Nov. 26, 1937, in Lafayette, Ind.

Mr. Schmidt was a graduate of Purdue University in 1935, worked in various management positions at Chamberlain Manufacturing for 37 years, and served on the Board of Allen Hospital for 27 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Phil (Judy) of Washington, Mich., and Dr. Arthur E. "Chip" (Linda) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Judy (Bob) Brown of Cedar Falls and Pam (Mike) Walther of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 215 Franklin St., preceded by a private committal service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LCMS World Relief and Human Care, Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Debt Retirement, or Friendship Village Health Center.
