WATERLOO - Ernest V. Nolan Sr., 80, of Waterloo, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born April 23, 1927, in Breckenridge, Minn., son of Eugene and Florence Storey Nolan. He married Melvina "Mel" Appleby on Sept. 5, 1949, in Waterloo.

Mr. Nolan was employed by John Deere & Company for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Ernie Jr. (Andi Harp) of Waterloo, Rick (Deb) of Evansdale and Bill of New Florence, Mo.; two daughters, Terry (Dennis) Reiners of Waterloo and Sue (Tony) Jones of Evansdale; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by five brothers, George, Pat, Ward, Lawrence and Richard; and a sister, Elaine Hileman.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
