[Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Sunday, April 22, 2007]

William "Bill" C. Keim, 79, of Waterloo, devoted and beloved husband of Christa (Alscher) Keim, passed away in peace on Tuesday (April 17, 2007) at ManorCare Nursing Home with his loving family at his side.

Born in Gloucester City, N.J., on Dec. 11, 1927, to the late Albert Keim and Katherine (Spence) Thomasson, William was a long-time resident there until 1971. He graduated from Gloucester City High School, class of 1945, and served in the U.S. Army, honorably discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant. During his time in the service, Bill was stationed in Germany and met and married his lovely bride of 58 years. William and Christa were married in Lenggries, Germany, on April 2, 1949, in the Roman Catholic Church.

Bill attended Drexel University in Philadelphia where he studied mechanical engineering. Bill was employed at Chamberlain Corporation from 1967 until his retirement in 1993 as the Department Head of Engineering; during his tenure with the company he worked in four of their national locations, including Burlington, New Jersey, and traveled to such far-away places as Egypt and Pakistan. Bill enjoyed his retirement, he took up scrapbooking and cross-stitching (entering his beautiful handiwork into the Iowa State Fair), built masterpiece model ships, tended to his lawn and flowers, and became a self-taught computer whiz, enjoying everything the Internet has to offer and e-mailing his out-of-state family often. William was a community volunteer, serving his fellow senior citizens and was a Child Advocate, serving on the Iowa Citizens Foster Care Review Board for many years. William was a communicant of St. Edward's Church in Waterloo.

Besides his wife, he is survived by six children: Janet Shodder of Haddon Township, N.J., Barbara Langley and her husband Richard of Newington, Conn., Theresa Haworth and her husband Gary of Searsboro, Loretta Wood and her husband William of Sewell, N.J., William J. and his wife Cerise of Lexington, Mass., and Thomas and his wife Judi of Waldorf, Md. Bill also leaves 12 precious grandchildren, four great-granddaughters, and two sisters, Katherine VanFossen (and her husband Charles) and Dorothy Thomasson of Gloucester City; and sisters-in-law, Cass Thomasson of Woodbury, N.J., and Margaret Bremen of Belleville, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Harold Thomasson, and a nephew, Charles VanFossen.

The family is grateful to William's physician of many years, Dr. Kent Opheim.

William's memorial mass will be held May 4, 2007, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Gloucester City, with interment following at New Saint Mary Cemetery in Bellmawr, N.J., at 11 a.m. There are no calling hours. The family requests memorials to be made to Iowa Citizens Foster Care Review Board, 221 W. High St., Toledo, IA 52342.
