Conrad Bender, 86, of 2705 East Fourth street, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday at home of complications of asthma and advanced age.

Born June 2, 1864, in Marburg, Germany, he was the son of Justic and Dorothy Bender. He came to the United States in 1881, settling in Black Hawk County.

Before moving to Waterloo in 1901, he worked on a farm. Mr. Bender was employed at Iowa Public Service Co. before retiring in 1936.

On Sept. 15, 1887, he married Augusta Moore in Waterloo. He attended the German Lutheran Church.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. William Totten, Rosemeade, Cal., and Mrs. Earl R. Kern, Jesup, Ia.; two sons, H. C. Bender, Torrance, Cal., and Loren, at home; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on May 20, 1951, and one son in infancy.

The body is at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are pending.
