WATERLOO - Ronald G. “Shep” Schoephoerster, 76, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born Dec. 6, 1937, in Sumner, son of Grant and Marion Reeck Schoephoerster. He married Marlys Behrens on March 15, 1964, in Arlington.

Ron graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1957. He was employed with Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. and later with Electronic Data Services, retiring in 1993. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Karen (Ron) Dix of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law, Lorenz (Marian) Behrens of Eldridge; three sisters-in-law, Ursula Cordes of Arlington, Joanne Behrens of Minneapolis and Anne Schoephoerster of Ketting, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden Of Memories Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society or Iowa Natural Resources.

Ron enjoyed bowling and bowled in several leagues. He served on the Waterloo Men’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for over 20 years. He bowled in many city and state tournaments and in 30 Nationals. He was elected to the Waterloo Hall of Fame in 2009. Ron bowled three 300 games, and several 299s. He also was a Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed going to the casino.
