WATERLOO - Gerald Q. “Jerry” Deuth, 98, of Friendship Village, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at Park Lane Health Center.

He was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Forreston Ill., son of Fred and Ethel Griswold Deuth. He married Harriet A. Strickland on Aug. 17, 1952, in Waterloo; she died in August 1985.

Jerry graduated from high school in Forreston, and from the University of Illinois with an architectural degree. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed architect and also was vice president of Wendell Lockard Construction. He was a member of the Waterloo Elk’s Club, and was past president of the Noon Exchange Club.

Survived by a son, Michael (Brenda) of Prior Lake, Minn.; three grandchildren, Britney Prunty, Keelan Deuth and Caleb Deuth; and three great-granddaughters, Haylee, Madeline and Norah.

Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Forrest, Fredrick, Mick and Paul; and two sisters, Anna Powers and Jane Hiteman.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Detail.

Memorials may be directed to Lakeview Lodge

While serving his country, Jerry was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service in the Rhineland Campaign European Theatre.
