WATERLOO - Ruth A. Zell, 89, of Waterloo, died at home Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, of natural causes.

She was born July 25, 1919, at home in What Cheer, daughter of Paul A. and Gladys Natalie Boyles Palmer. On April 13, 1941, she married Harold L. Zell at First Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Mrs. Zell graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, receiving her teachers certificate. She taught at three rural schools and also taught piano lessons until her retirement.

Survived by her husband; three sons, Blair (Elizabeth) of Geneva, Ill., Jon of Clinton, Mass., and Michael (Phyllis) of Chadwick, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Ned Palmer.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Valley Lutheran School.
