CEDAR FALLS - Services for Louis I. Thompson, 70, of 2009 University Dr., will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Lindenwood Cemetery in Geneva. Mr. Thompson died at 9:42 p.m. Monday at Sartori Memorial Hospital of a massive coronary attack.

He was born Oct. 12. 1904, in Hampton, the son of Roland and Caroline Barkley Thompson. He married Helen J. Van Nest June 2, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minn.

He was secretary-field man of the Iowa State Hereford Association at the time of his death, a position he had held for the past seven years. He was with the Livestock Service Department at Rath Packing Co. and originated the Rath Land of Corn Program in 1944. He spent four months in Ethiopia in 1967 with the Stanford Research Foundation.

A graduate of Iowa State University, he was assistant director of the South Dakota State Extension Service for 12 years.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Cancer Society. Friends may call at the funeral home until service time.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry of Monroe, Conn.; a daughter. Mrs. Jean Merz of Arlington, Neb.: three brothers. Walter of St. Paul, Minn., and Clarence and Ralph, both of Hampton; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Keepf of Hampton.
