Howard L. Pichelmann, 90, of Reinbeck, formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Parkview Manor of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 18, 1918, in Waterloo, son of August H. and Elsie Stromer Pichelmann. On June 26, 1951, he married Dorothy Kline in Springdale, Ark. She died Aug. 6, 1985. On Oct. 13, 1990, he married Monica Brandt Lovell in Reinbeck

Mr. Pichelmann graduated from Waterloo West High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, obtaining the rank of sergeant. He worked as a bricklayer for Marquart Concrete, Waterloo, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Reinbeck.

Survived by his wife; two stepsons, David (Wanda) Lovell of Fort Dodge and Larry (Merna) Lovell of Waverly; a stepdaughter, Gail (Roland) Fink of Lincoln; five stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson; a sister, Betty (Lee) McCombs of Waterloo; and two brothers, Arnold (Gladys) of Cedar Falls and Richard (Phyllis) of Lincoln, Mo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Fern Ohe.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Reinbeck, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Military rites will be conducted by Reinbeck American Legion. Public visitation for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
