MORF, NIEWOEHNER, NIEMAN, PLATT, BARAN

Hertha A. Morf, 104, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born December 28, 1900 in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Nieman) Niewoehner.

Hertha married Bert F. Morf on April 21, 1920. He died in 1967. They owned and operated hardware stores, first in Waverly, then Riceville, and finally Tripoli Hardware in Tripoli. They sold the store in the mid 1940’s and moved to California where they lived until the early 1950’s. They then moved back to Cedar Falls and became members of Nazareth Lutheran Church.

As a young person, Hertha enjoyed playing tennis, hiking, and bicycling. Later, she enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, reading and bridge. Hertha’s faith and family were important to her. She will be remembered for her love of nature, grace, kindness and integrity.

Survived by her two daughters, Lee Platt and her husband Dean of Waterloo and Jeanette Baran and her husband John of Palos Verdes Estates, California. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Richard Platt and his wife Marsha, Ann Fergemann and her husband Gary, Lynn Leary and her husband Ted and John Baran and his wife Laurie; also 10 great-grandchildren.

Hertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bert; and nine brothers and sisters.
