John J. Nisius, 77, of Weslaco, TX; formerly of Hudson, IA, died Thursday, October 28, 2004 at the Valley Grande Nursing Home in Weslaco, TX from complications of a stroke.

He was born on May 24, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mabel (Smith) Nisius. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

John married Marjorie (Marge) Wilson on June 29, 1947 in Kansas City, KS. He worked at Rath Packing Company for 34½ years, retiring in 1982.

He was a very creative person. He loved doing wood work and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He later learned how to crochet. John and his wife, Marge lived in Hudson for 26½ years, before moving to Weslaco, TX in 1982. He never met a stranger because he made friends so easily. He was helpful to everyone. He coached little league and taught his scouts and neighbors how to water ski. He was also a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scout Troop in Hudson. John was a member of the Methodist Church in Waterloo, Hudson, and in Mercedes, TX.

John is survived by his wife, Marge; a daughter, Linda Jackson and her husband Richard, of Bedford, TX; and two brothers, Frankie Nisius and his wife Marge of Stout, and Robert Nisius of Waterloo.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
