CEDAR FALLS - Jack M. Zabel, 82, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Waterloo, son of Hugo and Evelyn Morris Zabel. He married Mattie Lou Garner on Dec. 13, 1953, in Waterloo; she died in March 1978. He later married Doris Ann Larsen Scoles on March 11, 1983, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Jack graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a supervisor at John Deere PEC for 38 years, retiring in 1993, and was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Craig (Connie) of Dike and Kevin (Kim) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Peggy Decker of Sterling, Va., and Kris (David) Leith of Houston; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three half brothers, Ralph (Anne) Carr of Bosque Farms, N.M., and Bill (Carol Ann) Carr and Bernie Todd, both of Lingle, Wyo.; and three half sisters, Carol Peterson and Virginia (Marv) Reib, both of Torrington, Wyo., and Pat Martin of Belen, N.M.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, preceded by a private family burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, Waterloo. There will be no visitation at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Trails, Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
