Norman E. Durns, 72, died Thursday October 23, 2003 at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, following complications of an illness.

He was born October 16, 1931 in Garretson, S.D. to John and Nora (Andersen) Durns. He married Darlene Harder on March 7, 1954 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Hudson, IA.

Norman drove truck, was a supervisor at Engineered Equipment for 11 years, and then retired as a fork lift driver at John Deere. He served with the United States Marines during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran and the Evansdale AmVets.

He is survived by his wife Darlene; son-in-law Merritt (Rev. Debra) Bebout, of Trempealeau, WI; brother John (Donna) Durns, of Tuscon, AZ; sister Betty (Don) Hundley, of LeGrand, IA; brother Gerald Durns, Lake Chalan, WA, brother-in-law Everett Stewart, Waterloo; and sister-in-law JoAnn Durns of Apple Valley, CA. One grandson Merritt (Jessica) Bebout, Winona, MN and one step grandson Gabriel Bebout, Winona, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Sheryl Diane Bebout in 1980; son Brett Norman Durns in 2001; sister Lucille Stewart, and 2 brothers Richard and Royce Durns.
