Mernell M. Hicks, 89, of Windsor Care Center, Cedar Falls; formerly of 2724 Bicentennial Drive, died on Monday, January 31, 2005 at Windsor Care Center of natural causes.

She was born May 17, 1915 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Ida Mae (Sorensen) Dobbins. Mernell graduated from East High School in 1933.

She married Claude Hicks on October 10, 1950. He died on July 22, 1969. She worked as a local registrar for Black Hawk County, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls.

Mernell is survived by her two daughters, Karen Flege and her husband Kent of Cedar Falls: Nancy Tremalgia and her husband Robert of Durham, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Alexa, Sara, Margaret, Cory, Michael, Jennifer, Heather and Jessica; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Brody.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude and one infant brother.
