Charlotte Anne Hinson, 89, of Friendship Village, formerly of 741 Sunrise Blvd., died Wednesday, August 11, 2004, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born in Waterloo, Iowa, December 22, 1914, sixth child of William A. Burton and Madonna Greenside Burton. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1933, and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI).

On September 2, 1937, in Waterloo, she married William Henry Hinson. They were married for fifty-nine years before he died in April of 1997.

Charlotte and Bill moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for four years, returning to Waterloo in 1941. They both played in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra for forty-four years. She was very active in music as a cellist, both in the symphony and for various community functions throughout the years. She was an avid promoter of music education with her grandchildren and the community as a whole. She had been active in many community activities and groups including LMI club (Ladies Musical Improvement); Chapter IX, PEO; Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Guild; Gamma Phi Beta Sorority; First United Methodist Church; and Jr. League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Driver (Craig) of Waterloo; her son, Richard Hinson (Jane) of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren: Scott Driver of Tucson, AZ; Jeffrey Driver and Gyobanna Carvajal of Waterloo; Charlotte Elaine Driver of Phoenix, AZ; Ashley E. Hinson of Grand Junction, CO; Piper A. Hinson of Los Angeles, CA; and Blake W. Hinson of West Des Moines, IA; and her sister Margaret Byers of Chula Vista, CA.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Robert Burton and Ralph Burton; three sisters, Minerva Riley, Jean Stuelke, and Virginia Davey.

Charlotte’s family wants to thank Marcia Johnson, Peter Colver, Vivian Weimer, Elaine (Driver) and Fred Mast, Jan and Wayne Sadler, Fran and Frank Nelson, and others who helped in her care.
