HUDSON - Harley Okko Peters, 97, of Hudson, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born April 22, 1917, in Raymond, S.D., son of Okko Benjamin and Mary Alice Ward Peters. On Aug. 27, 1950, he married Doris Jones Rich in Monroe; she preceded him in death.

Harley graduated from Hamilton High School in Illinois, and attended Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, and Northwestern Bible College, Minneapolis. He was a Baptist pastor, serving congregations in Oskaloosa, Lincoln, Mont., Spokane and Bridgeport, Wash., and Traer. He also worked as a mechanic for Friedley Olds-Lincoln-Mercury in Waterloo, Coonradt Ford in Waverly, operated his own shop, and had worked for Puralator Courier Service, Waterloo. He was a member of Hagerman Baptist Church, Waterloo.

Survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Larry) Mason of Tulsa, Okla., and Shirley (Dave) Hulbert of Shell Rock; three sons, Larry (Linda) of Chandler, Ariz., Donald (Barb) of State Center and David (Robin) of Hudson; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Verna Limkeman of Quincy, Ill., and Virginia Kaupert of Boise, Idaho.

Preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mildred Luder, Helen Swain and Imogene Cooper; and two brothers, Murray and Harry.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Hagerman Baptist Church, Waterloo, where visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., and with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the church.

After retiring from the ministry, Harley and Doris moved to Shell Rock. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, working on cars and tractors.
