WATERLOO - James Ralph Wells, 87, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born April 19, 1927, in Clarksville, son of Ralph and Kathryn Nemec Wells. He married Ida Mae Pitts on July 3, 1948, in Bentonville, Ark.; she died June 2, 2004.

James served in U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was employed with Rath Packing Co. for 33 years and then was a security guard at the National Guard Armory in Waterloo.

Survived by three daughters, Kathryn (Roy) Stevens, Diane (Don) Gallagher and Caroline (Greg Goforth) Wilson, all of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Jim (Jessica Gallmeyer) Hart, Tom (Natalie) Hart, Brian (Ariella Stampfer) Warren, Randy (Sabrina Relaz) Wells and Kathryn Scarlet Hilton; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Glen; and three sisters, Marion Randall, Barbara Condon and Geraldine Cutsforth.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
