WATERLOO - M. Gertrude Bell, 92, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, April 24, at Thornton Manor, Lansing, of natural causes.

She was born April 10, 1915, in Trenton, N.D., daughter of Joseph and Margaret Shepherd Beston. Her father died during the flu epidemic of 1918, and she was raised by Archie E. Cameron. She married Wendell I. Bell on May 23, 1942, in Waterloo. He died Aug. 16, 1972.

Mrs. Bell was a 1933 graduate of Waterloo East High School. She worked in the offices of Rath Packing Co. for many years; and for Conestoga Council of Girl Scouts, Fred D. Adams, and USF&G Insurance. She retired from the Black Hawk County Soil Conservation District in 1981. She was a deacon and elder at Waterloo First Presbyterian Church; lifetime member Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority; and was a member of the Family Living Committee of Iowa State Extension Service.

Survivors include: two daughters, Suzanne Paterson of Decatur, Ill., and Wendy (Dale) Schutte of Harpers Ferry; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Cameron of Waterloo; and a sister, Virginia Hutton of San Leandro, Calif.

Preceded in death by: two sisters, Justine and Amelia in infancy; and two brothers, Russell and Archie Cameron.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Waterloo First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Prairie du Chien Hospice, Prairie du Chien, Wis.
