LA PORTE CITY - Mardell I. Damme, 77, of La Porte City, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Fairbank, daughter of John Leo and Irma Esther Spragg Kauten. She married Robert Eugene Damme on Dec. 31, 1955, at First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo; he died Oct. 20, 2011.

Mardell graduated from Waterloo West High School and was a homemaker.

Survived by a son, Merrill (Candace) of Washburn; a son-in-law, Donald Kunch of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Christina (Bruce) Anderson, Donald (Tammy) Bacon, Robert Bacon, Amanda Damme, Robert (Rebecca) Damme and John Damme; 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a brother, Kenneth Kauten of Dike.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cheryl Damme Kunch; a sister, Arlene Seamans; and two brothers, Dale and Beryl Kauten.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and an hour before services Monday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mardell followed her husband to many places during his military career, including Hawaii, Florida, Nevada, Illinois and Texas. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing bingo and spending time with her family. Mardell’s family would like to thank the staff at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center for their loving care.
