CEDAR FALLS - Maj. Harold F. Thomas, 75, of Bickford Cottage, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Dec. 22, 1933, in Pekin, Ill., son of Jesse Lloyd and Opha Josephine Morris Thomas. He married Anna Mary McCarty on July 12, 1957, in Hillsdale, Mich.

Major Thomas served as a clergyman for the Salvation Army for 41 years in Pontiac, Belvidere, Jacksonville and Granite City, Ill., Jefferson City and St. Louis, Mo., Burlington, Clinton, Waterloo and the Quad Cities. His longest pastorate was in Waterloo for 14 years.

Survived by his wife; a son, Michael (Mary) of Monroe, Mich.; two daughters, Deborah (Ralph) Gates of Waterloo and Cheryl (Kelly) Guess of St. Cloud, Fla.; two brothers, Lloyd (Norma) of St Louis and Phillip of East Peoria, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Regina.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army Citadel, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
