EVANSDALE - Donald K. Wilson, 80, of Evansdale, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Waterloo, son of Joseph and Ione Swanger Wilson. He married Dorothy Farris on Oct. 20, 1945, in Waterloo. She died Feb. 25, 1996.

Mr. Wilson was employed at John Deere & Co., served on the Evansdale City Council and was an Evansdale police officer for eight years. In 1963 he moved to Freemont, Calif., where he was the superintendent for Genstar Co. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 624 in Waterloo, Scottish Rite 32nd degree in Cedar Rapids, the Islam Shrine in San Francisco, and AMVETS Post 31 and St. Mark's United Methodist Church, both in Evansdale. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Fleet during World War II.

Survived by two daughters, Joann Petersen of Washington and Diann Rodgers of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Lori Winchester of Arizona, Jodi and Amy Winchester and Kami Patterson, all of California, and Bill Rodgers of Evansdale; and nine great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Helen Wilson-Surly.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Evansdale, with inurnment in Messenger Cemetery, rural Denver, at a later date. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo.
