Victor J. Smith, 69, of Janesville, died at home Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 after a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 3, 1935, in Waterloo, son of William and Hazel Fouts Smith. He married Barbara M. Trierweiler on April 16, 1955, in Waterloo.

Mr. Smith was employed by John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 31 years, retiring in 1991.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David of Waterloo, Carl of Kellogg and Ted of Berwick, La.; four daughters, LaLony Hannan of Cedar Falls, Susan (David) Hansen of St. Louis Park, Minn., Kathryn (Michael) Nelson of Fort Dodge and Patience Daniel of Clarksville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Daniel (Doris) Smith of Lorena, Texas, Richard (Peggy) Smith of Denver and William (Caryl) Smith of Waterloo; and four sisters, Connie (Sam) Tarr of Portaville, Calif., Betty (Bob) Platt and Marie Wheelock, both of Cedar Falls, and Karla (Douglas) Pike of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Victor J. Jr.; two brothers, Charles and Kenneth; and two sisters, Deloris Smith in infancy and Mary Smith.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Wesleyan Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garden View Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
