Gary Vernon Blair, 65, of 137 Prospect Blvd., died Friday, July 16, at Covenant Mediacl Center.

He was born December 5, 1938, in Ventura, California, son of Jack and Genevieve Schaefer Blair. He married Kay Harvey in Des Moines.

Mr. Blair created and operated the Biomedical Electronics Departments of Allen Memorial and St. Francis hospitals. He later was coordinator of the Black Hawk County Emergency Management Agency for 17 years, retiring in 2000. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael (Michelle) of Chicago, Illinois, and Charles (Lara) of Hudson; two daughters, Laina (Patrick) Casey and Nacy (Jeffrey) Boxwell, both of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrew, Randi, Adam, Amanda, and Tanna; his stepmother, Anne Blair of Kissee Mills, Missouri; and five brothers, Dr. Monte Blair of Sanford, Florida, Stephen Blair of Terre Haute, Indiana, Mark Blair of Bellview, Washington, Greg Blair of Branson, Missouri, and Dr. Christopher (Jennifer) Blair of Hurst, Texas.

Preceeded in death by his parents.

Services 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service.
