WATERLOO - Lana Blitsch, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 at home.

She was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Bruce Township, Benton County, daughter of Leslie D. and Anna Rahn Chester. She married DeLyle D. Blitsch Dec. 27, 1937, in LaPorte City. He died Feb. 8, 1979.

She graduated from La Porte City High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. She worked as a food and beverage manager at the Holiday Inn in Cedar Falls before retiring in 1983.

She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She treasured her family and grandchildren and loved fishing, watching basketball, playing cards, bowling and was a member of the St. Mary's Craft Club.

Survived by three sons, John R. (Lori) of Waterloo, Gary D. (Sharon) of Topeka, Kan., and Jake of Oelwein; three daughters, Sally (Patrick) Kelly of Waterloo, Nancy Blitsch of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Mary Sue (Jon) Johnson of LeClaire; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband; and three brothers, Wallace, Fred and Ira Chester.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, School Chapel on East Fourth Street, with burial in St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Eagle Center. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Queen Peace Catholic Church.
