CEDAR FALLS - Ervin A. Kressley, 87, of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, formerly of Waterloo, died there Wednesday, June 27, 2007 of natural causes.

He was born July 29, 1919, in Vinton, son of Elmer L. and Georgia M. Fouts Kressley. He married Jean E. Payne on Aug. 1, 1941, in Waterloo, and they were later divorced. He then married Frances Miller on July 6, 1957, in Preston, Minn. She preceded him in death Dec. 19, 1999.

Mr. Kressley was employed at Rath Packing Co., was owner/manager of The Cottage Inn in Waterloo and Erv's Snack'nQue in Cedar Falls, was employed by the Iowa Liquor Commission as a store manager and by the Waterloo Schools as head custodian.

He was the 95-pound Iowa state wrestling champion in 1936 and the state runner-up in 1937.

Mr. Kressley was a veteran of the Army Infantry in World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He also was a member of VFW Post 1623, Disabled American Veterans and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survived by: two sons, Ervin A. II (Joanne) of Buckley, Mich., and Kevin E. (Deb) of Waterloo; three daughters, Nancy L. (Ed) Hansen of Omaha, Neb., Elaine (Roger) Seemann of Waterloo and Annette (John) Sannon of Grimes; a daughter-in-law, Betty Kressley of Camden, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a son, David; two brothers, one in infancy and Bernard N.; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Engdahl.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, where there will be a 6 p.m. Eagle's memorial service, and for an hour before services Monday.
