WATERLOO - Carl R. "Bob" Hartz, 84, of Waterloo, died at home, Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006.

He was born March 28, 1922, in Evansville, Ind., son of Carl A. and Margaret E. Williams Hartz. He married Virginia E. Kendrick on Sept. 1, 1944, in Montgomery, Ala.

Mr. Hartz attended the University of Tennessee and was a veteran of U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1942 to 1946. He was territory sales manager for Sidles Company of Des Moines, retiring in 1984. He was an usher at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a member of the Waterloo and State of Iowa Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael (Janice) of Waterloo, Patrick (Janola) of Chariton and Timothy (Catherine) of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Michelle Hartz, Chad (Jennifer) Hartz, Kristopher (Heather) Hartz, Chanelle Hartz, Neil Hartz, Bridget (Tim) Bakula and Dan Hartz; and six great-grandchildren, Shelby Axtell, Payton Hartz, Sydney, Kaden, and Carson Hartz, and Tate Bakula.

Preceded in death by a son, Jon T. Hartz; his parents; and two sisters, Mary Jane Christensen and Margaret (Peggy) Elsbury.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.
