WATERLOO - Lorentz O. “Larry” Hope, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, Aug.8, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Elgin, son of Sigurd and Martha (Danielson) Hope. He married Emma Thomas on Dec. 26, 1971 in Rock Island, Ill.

Larry owned and operated a cement finishing and water proofing business for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Survived by his wife of Vinton; a son, T.J. Knight of Mount Pleasant; four sisters, Ernestine Chase of Oelwein, Bessie Smith of Waterloo, Jean Kurtz of Bettendorf, and Carolyn Sullivan of Waterloo; and a brother, Lester Hope of West Union.

Preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Virginia Chase, Ruth Duwe, Anna Malone, Evelyn Brown and Sandra Armstrong; and two brothers, Arnold and Lester Hope.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo, with full military honors conducted by Becker Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sullivan Brothers VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
