WATERLOO - Mildred L. Madill, 95, of Friendship Village, died there Friday, Dec. 26, 2008.

She was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Hardin County, daughter of Rufus H. and Anna M. Reece Faris. She married William Edward Martin on Jan. 1, 1934, in Bangor, and they later divorced. She married Stanley M. Madill on Sept. 27, 1954, in Oak Grove, Mo. They lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1956 to 1963. He died March 3, 1982

Mrs. Madill graduated from New Providence High School in 1931, then attended Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa, receiving her rural school teaching certificate. She taught rural school for two years at Illinois Grove School, Marshall County; was a deputy recorder at the Black Hawk County Courthouse from 1947 to 1954; and was Welcome Wagon Hostess from 1947 to 1950. She was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter FE, past president of Friendship Village Auxiliary, and founding member and member emeritus of the Friendship Village Foundation.

Survived by a daughter, Dr. Marilyn (Dr. Jack) Rossmann of St. Paul, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Carol Ann Winfrey and Jean (John) Burroughs, both of Bellingham, Wash.; Argentine daughter, Theresa Schwindt of New York City; seven grandchildren, Ann E. Rossmann, Charles G (Kathleen) Rossmann, Sarah (Frederic) Deschamps, Grantham Winfrey, Kenton Winfrey, Carlton (Karen) Burroughs and Bonnie (Bob) Packo; six great-grandchildren, Ramsey and Carmen Rossmann, Emma and Lilly Deschamps, and Bryn and Dawson Burroughs.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter Cathy Burroughs.

Memorial services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Village Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will follow the service. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
