WATERLOO - Dale Joseph Bedard, 78, of Waterloo, died at home Friday, July 25, 2014.

He was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Eagle Center, son of George and Anna Knipp Bedard. He married Marilyn Franzen on July 28, 1962, in Waterloo.

A 1953 graduate of La Porte City High School, Dale served in the National Guard and was employed at Rath Packing Co. for 29 years. During that time he also sprayed crops and did various carpentry work. After Rath closed, he worked at Quality Mat.

Survived by his wife; four daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Cross, Diahn (Eddie) Diaz, Kristi (Greg) Caya and Tina Chudarry; three sons, Thomas, Michael (Heather) and Steven (Michele), all of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua (Whitney) and Jennifer Moline, Amanda, Haley, Tyler and Dylan Diaz, Heather and Landon Caya, Zachary, Cambria and Isaiah Pena, Heidi (Noya) and Brandon (Shelby) Bedard, Abigail and Elizabeth Bedard; three stepgrandchildren, Mitch and Emily Cross, and Abigail Thomas; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jackie (Harold) Reiter of La Porte City and Marly Sinnott of Rolla, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Judy (Lawrence) Corkery of Jesup.

Preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Viola (Piney) Bedard; his twin brother, Gale; and a grandson, Joseph James Bedard.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary service and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dale was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed playing cards, telling stories, reading books, watching movies and especially solving crossword puzzles with his wife. He was a loving husband, father and affectionately called Papa by his grandchildren.
